Details about the revived Volvo XC70which is sold exclusively as plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) were unveiled by regulatory submissions in China.
Volvo showed the exterior of the XC70 at the beginning of this month, but offered no technical information about the new model, except that it offers “extended range plug-in hybrid” antriant and is the first Volvo vehicle that uses the new scalable modular architecture of the car manufacturer (SMA).

In the heart of the plug-in hybrid drive of the XC70 is a 120 kW 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder petrol engine developed by Geely and Volvo and manufactured with Renault as part of an Aurobay-Joint.
This engine can already be seen in a series of Geely and Lynk & Co models, in which it is usually paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. No details were published via the electric motors of the XC70, but the car can reach a top speed of 180 km/h.
Two battery options will be available. The basic specification has a 21.22 kWh -LFP battery, of which 100 km is supposed to offer pure electrical drive span under the generous CLTC standard.
More expensive variants are equipped with a 39.63 kW -NMC -AKKU, which allegedly provides 180 km EV driving with the CLTC standard.
The versions with the smaller battery weigh around 2110 kg, while the option for the larger range spreads the scales at 2275 kg.
Measurement of 4815 mm long, 1890 mm wide, 1650 mm in size and on a 2895 mm wheelbase and is located between the 4.7 m long XC60 SUV with medium size and the 4.95 m long XC90 SUV. The height corresponds approximately to the vehicles that book it, while the XC70 is fractionally narrower than both.

So far, the XC70 has only been confirmed for China, where the orders will begin later this year. Volvo says that “potential additional markets will be examined at a later date”.

The line of the XC70 dates from 1997, when the V70 Cross Country or V70 XC celebrated its debut as a high-ranking all-wheel drive variant of the V70 car, structured after the highly popular Subaru-Outback based on the Liberty car.
Only after the start and success of the XC90 did the company finally decide on the name XC70.
From 2016, Volvo simplified its model name structure around the 40, 60 and 90s series and eliminated like V70/XC70 and S80. It also reserved the XC Prefix for its SUV-like crossover, with removable car returned to the cross-country tissue name.
