With the brand new 2026 RAV4, Toyota beats the reset button on its best-selling crossover. After years of incremental updates, the latest generation arrives with an outdated platform, a standard hybrid performance across the board and a bold new GR sports cladding, which promises the real attitude and performance. As one of the three best-selling vehicles in the United States last year, the update of the RAV4 update is only as important behind the Chevy Silverado and Ford F series.

The largest heading is the shift of the RAV4 to hybrid power. Gone is the traditional gas engine, which is replaced by the fifth generation of the fifth generation hybrid system. On the basic level, the new RAV4 has 226 hp in the form of front -wheel drive or 236 hp if it is equipped with all -wheel drive. This is a remarkable jump through the previous models, which brings both an improved performance and fuel efficiency, even though Toyota has not yet published official MPG numbers.

Plug-in fans will also like a lot. The new RAV4 plug-in hybrid replaces the outgoing RAV4 Prime and brings serious muscles. With the sixth generation of Toyota, it produces 320 hp and offers up to 50 miles of all-electric driving area-a solid upgrade from the 42 miles of the Prime. The plug-in also brings silicone carbide and a larger battery, which means a faster and more efficient energy supply.

The charging options vary depending on the trim. The XSE and Woodland models now support DC, the quick load via a CCS connection, while Se- and GR sports cladding hold onto the slower J1772 connection. All ability have an 11-kilowatt charger on board for faster loads at home. Despite all the electrification, the use of the RAV4 remains intact. AWD models retain their towing capacity of £ 3,500, while FWD models now tow up to £ 1,750.

Toyota’s new equipment structure divides the RAV4 in three style categories: core design, robust design and sports design. The core design includes the LE, XLE and LIMITED, all of which are operated by the standard hybrid drive. FWD and AWD options are available for lower cladding, but the limited is only equipped with AWD.

The robust design is the place where the off -roaders come in. At the moment, this means that forest cladding is added with all-terrain tires, added LED lighting and a roof shelf. It can occur as a hybrid or plug-in and only comes with AWD.

Sports design brings the performance punch. SE and XSE offer a selection of hybrid or plug-in drive lines. But it is the new GR sports that steals the spotlight. It is not a full Gazoo racing model, but it is the most aggressive rav4. Only available with the 320 horsepower-plug-in drive train and the AWD will the GR sports probably outperform the 0 to 60 miles per hour of 5.5 seconds of the RAV4 Prime. Toyota dresses it with 20-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, a strong front grill that repeats the GR crown, and a suede with synthetic leather.

The technology also sees a significant jump. By default, each 2026 RAV4 is equipped with a 10.5-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Higher cladding can upgrade to an even larger 12.9-inch touchscreen. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Dual Bluetooth and now contains a fixed home button for easier navigation.

Security also receives an upgrade. The RAV4 is the first Toyota to offer the new security suite 4.0 suite. While it builds on well -known functions such as adaptive speed control and automatic emergency braking, the latest version adds improved sensors and identification software to achieve better performance under real conditions.

What is missing? For the moment pricing. The outgoing 2025 RAV4 begins almost 30,000 US dollars, and although Toyota has not confirmed how much the 2026 version will cost, you do not expect a massive leap given the competitive segment.
