From DCB editorialPresent June 1, 2025

Oscar Piatri dominated the Spanish Grand Prix to win his fifth win of the season, to extend his championship lead and to lead McLaren to a 1-2 place in front of the team-mate Lando Norris. Based on Pole, Piatri made a strong short vacation and held the early pressure from Max Verstappen, who had jumped in curve. Although Verstappen briefly took the lead after the first pit stops, Piatri again gave the advantage that received a strategic struggle between McLaren and Red Bull.

The race took a dramatic turn when a late security car was used by Kimi Antonellis Mercedes with a mechanical problem. This enabled the front runners to fit again for fresh tires and create a six-round sprint to the destination. While Piatri and Norris stormed in advance, Verstappen lost third place against Charles Leclerc and then got involved in a heated scrap with George Russell. After two incidents, Verstappen received a time penalty of 10 seconds, which ultimately downgraded him to the finish line.

Behind the podium – Piatri, Norris and Leclerc – Russell took fourth place, and Nico Hulkenberg delivered an outstanding driving after the 15th start to reach fifth place. Lewis Hamilton was sixth for Ferrari, followed by Isack Hadjar In the seventh and Pierre Gasly in the eighth.

Fernando Alonso finally scored his first points of the season in the ninth season for Aston Martin, while Verstappen’s penalty was able to put him in the final number of points. Lance Draging missed the race due to a hand injury, while Antonelli and Alex Albon were the only retirement in an eventful race.
