There are only a few cars that immediately more recognizable – or unapologically cooler – as the black and golden Pontiac Trans on from Smokey and the bandit. It was not just a star of the 1977 cult classic; It became a phenomenon of pop culture. But many fans do not recognize that the very first Y84 Special Edition Trans on went directly to the man who made it famous – Burt Reynolds.
In a new video from National Parts Depot, we take a closer look at this milestone machine and your remarkable connection to Reynolds. The Y84 Special Edition package has the already fat -printed trans on and turned it into a rolling symbol. With its golden accents, snowflake wheels and legendary screaming chicken on the bonnet, it was unmistakable. And while Pontiac officially debuted the Y84 in 1977, it was tacitly delivered to Reynolds as a thank you when he made the car a film star.

Memorial Day Weekend 1977 began the publication of Smokey and The Bandit. Pontiac only gave up a handful of cars in a million dollar product placement today. When Star Wars was the only film that was the Eclipse Bandit at the summer mass, the GM executives were really lucky/happy. Pontiac gave Reynolds a new car for black -gold special expenses (and promised him much more). Although he was waiting for his car for a while, it was the first of something very special.
