Bugatti presented a deeper insight into the engineering behind its revolutionary Tourbillon Hybrid Hypercar in Episode 08 of the documentary series “A New Era”, which is now streaming on the Bugatti YouTube channel. In this latest chapter, the curtain for a technical masterpiece is withdrawn, which merges a highly rotating, naturally sucked V16 with the latest electrical drive technology and offers an experience that can be redefined what a hypercar can be.
Instead of using the electrification as a replacement for the combustion, Bugatti leads a more nuanced way. The electrical components do not serve as an alternative, but as an enabler of the raw emotions and performance of the V16. According to Mate Rimac, CEO from Bugatti Rimac, this seamless integration makes the drive train of the tourbillon so extraordinary. The hybrid system combines a brand new 8.3 liter V16, a highly developed eight-speed dual clutch transmission and a 250-kilowatt rear electric engine that can rotate to 24,000 rpm. Surprisingly, this entire setup weighs only 430 kilograms and corresponds to the weight of the Chiron engine alone.

At the front there are two additional electric motors and double inverters in a compact unit on the electrical axis. All of this is paired with a uniquely designed 25 kWh-t-shaped battery, which is integrated directly into the chassis. This not only improves the structural rigidity, but also enables more than 60 kilometers in the entire electrical area. With oil-cooled, high-density cells and an 800-volt architecture, the battery is as well as a performance of the packaging as well as performance.
Despite its complexity, the tourbillon is lighter than its predecessor and offers improved handling, more luggage compartment and even greater top speed. This was achieved by comprehensive use of innovative materials and manufacturing methods such as 3D printed, topologically optimized suspension components, which weigh 45 percent less than previous constructions.
The real genius lies in the way every electric motor plays several roles. As starter motors, generators and torque fillers, they enable quick power supply and eliminate the need for a conventional 12-volt system. It is this type of multifunctional efficiency that defines the technical philosophy of the tourbillon.
Bugatti has not only created a hybrid hypercar. They built a completely new blueprint for performance vehicles that does not affect the drama of combustion. Instead, it increases it. With this recent insight into the tourbillon it is clear that Bugatti not only writes a new chapter in its famous story, but also re -formed the future of the automotive excess.
